Destination Management
Yarra Valley & Dandenong Ranges Destination Management Plan
Overview
Key Deliverables
The project delivered several key outputs:
- A comprehensive 10-year Destination Management Plan
- A Workforce Plan addressing skills and employment needs
- Four Local Area Plans for sub-regions within the Yarra Valley and Dandenong Ranges
- A Key Findings Paper summarizing initial research and visitor economy analysis
ODIN360 employed a rigorous methodology involving extensive research, stakeholder engagement, and economic analysis. Over 2,000 people provided input through surveys, workshops, and interviews. The team also conducted market research, accommodation analysis, and audits of existing attractions.
Outcomes
These plans provide significant benefits to the region:
- A shared vision and strategy for sustainable tourism development
- Initiatives to increase visitor yield and length of stay
- Strategies to shift visitation patterns from day trips to overnight stays and from weekends to mid-week
- Improved visitor experiences and regional liveability
- Enhanced support for tourism among local communities
- Alignment with global best practices in sustainable destination management
Importantly, the plans were adopted by the YRT board, four local councils, and the project advisory group, demonstrating broad stakeholder support. By providing a clear, actionable roadmap for the next decade, ODIN360’s work positions the Yarra Valley and Dandenong Ranges to maximize the benefits of tourism while preserving its natural and cultural assets
